Narrowing a WK wheel - Part 2
After narrowing the WK wheels a little bit, I was poking around on RCC and saw a few people talking about making a regular tire taller by slapping it on a very narrow rim. I decided that I could use my previously narrowed WK wheels and slap on some Rock Lizards I had sitting around. The result is a very narrow tire almost as tall as a RC4wd Rockcrusher.
PARTS & SUPPLIES NEEDED
Stock WK wheels
CA glue (thin is fine)
X-acto knife
4 x 1" washers (about 2.5" OD)
TOOLS
Dremel with cutoff disks
Sandpaper (rough & fine)
1/2" masking tape
The first time I narrowed these rims, I cut material off the front for maximum backspacing. This time I removed material off the back. If you haven't seen how I narrowed the wheels the first time, go check out that writeup:
1. The first thing I did was to wrap the masking tape around the rim so I'd have a nice even line around the wheel to cut on. Then, just like the first time, I went around and cut the wheel in half.
2. After sanding things smooth, line up the two sides and glue them back together. For 2 of the wheels, I decided to go crazy narrow and I actually cut off the inner most lip (not pictured).
3. I wanted to add a little weight to the outside of these wheel because I knew I'd never be able to get enough weight inside, so I also glued a big washer onto the outside of the wheel. It end up looking like a beadlock ring is you drill it and put in some small screws.
Here are the final wheels with my rock lizards glued on. You can tell the rears are a little fatter & shorter because I left the outer lip on them.
