Lowering your Wheely King Body

The one thing I have never liked about the WK is the monster truck look. It's fine for people looking to make a monster truck, but I want my rig to look more like a trail truck. I removed the chrome from the frame (which helped tremendously) but I still didn't like how the body sat up on the chassis. So I decided to lower the body. It should lower the COG a hair but I'm not looking for a large improvement there.... this is mostly just a "looks" modification.

PARTS & SUPPLIES NEEDED
2 x 3x15mm screws
4 x 2x8mm screws

TOOLS
Dremel with cutoff disks
Drill with assorted bits
Curved scissors
Screwdriver

1. The first thing I did was to lower the rear. I marked the factory position of the body mounts on the side of the chassis so I'd have a point of refrence. Next I ground off as much of the chassis as I could without compromising the strength. I then removed the stock bulkhead drilled two holes in my battery box approximating where I thought the screws should go. Next I drilled pilot holes in the bottom of the stock body mount piece and threaded the 3mm screws up from the underside of the box, into the body mounts.

2. Next I Drilled small holes into the body mounts from the sides (through the chassis) and screwed in the 2mm screws for more support.

3. In the front I couldn't go as low because of my ESC. I suppose I could move things around to get it lower but I'm happy with where it sits. Anyway, I basicly cut the top off the stock bulkhead. I cut right through where the body clip used to be inserted. Then I pushed the body mount piece down and reinstalled the clip underneath. It fit perfectly and the clip engages completely.

4. Now it's on to the trimming! I only removed what I absolutly had to in order to not have any rub. I know it doesn't seem like I lowered the body much, but you'll be surprised how much of a difference it makes, especially if you lower the front a little more than I did. Anyway, It still made a noticeable difference if you ask me ... but see for yourself...

Before & After 2 ... here you can really see how much I had to remove from the rear.
