Bump Stops

I hate to even call this "tech" but it's an idea for those of you that don't want to run shorter shocks or trim the hell out of a body. The idea is pretty simple ... cut out some small pieces of foam and insert them inside the shock springs. This will limit the uptravel and allow you to run a different body for the street, etc. I used a piece of the interlocking matting I had for my garage. It was cheap stuff I got from Big Lots. It's soft enough that when bottomed out the shocks won't be punished but hard enough to not let them compress all the way.

PARTS & SUPPLIES NEEDED
Foam matting

TOOLS
X-acto Knife
Small straight pick
Propane torch

1. First thing i did was cut a strip of the mat off. My initial strip was 3/5" wide just to start somewhere. From these I cut out little squares.

2. Next thing to do was to burn a hole in the middle. I used a torch to heat up a small straight pick but you can use anything that is close to the shock piston diameter.

3. Now you need to cut a slit from one side to the hole in the center and then trim the bumpstop until it fits inside your spring. Obviously you can make the bumpstops taller or shorter by addined more pieces or cutting some in half.

4. With the stops installed I can run the bodies I had trimmed up just enough to fit my 2.2 moabs but I can use my HPI Mud Mashers.
